I started running my senior year of college.  I read a book about running a marathon over the holiday break and I was hooked.  I immediately started following a plan and running on my parents old treadmill.  Six years later, I still love it.  I've taken breaks from running and then I've spent hard months training.  I find it to be so empowering and I love the challenge it brings to my life.  

Here is the outline of the plan I followed the spring/summer of 2013.  As with all my training plans, I didn't follow it exactly.
