Shake It Up

This is the cuteness that starts my days by jumping on the bed and staring at me with the expression "time to go outside!" Just look at those eyes!

Moving on - so remember my sleepless night on Saturday?  I'm still recovering from my lack of sleep.  It's always a few days after getting a bads night rest that's the worst for me.  I'm drinking kukicha tea brewed then poured over an umeboshi plum this morning - hoping it makes me feel better (one of the macrobiotic things I'm incorporating!)

Yesterday I really needed an energy boost in the morning so I made a breakfast shake.  How do you feel about protein shakes?  I go through periods where I have one everyday and then I won't have another one for months.  Normally I crave them more in the summer when I need something cold and refreshing after working out.  However, lately I've been making a shake at least twice a week.  I started my day yesterday with brown rice and tossed in some walnuts then made a shake for when I got to work.

Here's what I put into mine:

1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 tbs chia seeds
1 tbs flaxseed meal
1 tbs vegetarian protein powder
1 tbs organic peanut butter
4 ice cubes
(sometimes 1 organic banana)
(sometimes 1 tbs cocoa)

And just like that...deliciousness.  I generally drink my shake when I first get to work because it keeps me going throughout the morning.

Tell me all about your favorite shake!  What are other healthy happy ingredients you like to include?

  1. I never knew there was specific protein powder that is made vegetarian. Learn something new everyday! ;)

  3. I need to try that protein powder. The others I've bought have been so gross!

    1. Rawjuvenate is great! It is slightly sweet and adds a nice flavor to the shake :)
