Spring Gear is Here

The sun was shining so bright yesterday that I was having happy thoughts of Spring as I drove to work...

I’ve been a treadmill runner all winter long.  However, I would take a run outside any day over getting on the treadmill, but the problem for me in the winter is that it’s just too dark in the morning.  I do not live in an area where there are lots of lights in the neighborhoods and running in the pitch black (even with a headlamp) is just a little unnerving.  I’m a morning runner – I either get up and run before work or the run just isn’t in the cards for me that day.  Luckily there is no pressure on the weekends to get a run in by a certain time.

I find it so difficult to come home from work and run and I give credit to all you runners that do that because I wish I was better at it.  So I resort to the treadmill in the winter which I’m grateful for, but I am so excited to be back outdoors.  That being said yesterday I actually went running after work with my dog!  It was spontaneous and fantastic, but Jax was a little out of shape (probably because he can't join me on the treadmill all winter!)

I could only find his Halloween collar - oops!

Yesterday, I got to wear my gear for outdoor running for the first time.  I received the reflective vest and running belt for Christmas and they’ve been patiently sitting in my closet the last 2 months waiting to be used!  I know they were both ordered off Amazon in case you’re in need of some gear for Spring.  This belt is great because it holds my iPhone, running snack (CLIF SHOT Energy Gel’s are vegan!), license while staying snug to my body  and the pocket is very stretchy.  I also have a Fuel Belt that holds two little water bottles and generally a gel, but the problem with that is there isn’t a pocket that can hold my cell phone as well (I only wear the Fuel Belt on longer runs).  I’m trying to make a habit of always carrying my cell with me because it makes friends and family much happier and I know it’s good just to be safe.  The great thing about the pink belt (in the picture below) is that I can wear it along with my Fuel Belt and it doesn’t add hardly any extra weight.

The Reflective Running Vest is something completely new to me.  I’ve never worn one in the past, but I figured it can’t hurt and I’m all about bright colors anyways!  The headband is because I find that even if I’m warm throughout my body, I’ll start stripping other layers off before my headband.  I guess my ears just get really cold.  So that’s my gear that I’m so excited about Spring running with!

What's one of your running essential items?  Do you use any of the same gear as me?  Ever run with your dog?

Happy Spring Running (Ok, I'm a little early, but almost!)

  1. I can't wait to run outside! I hope sometime soon. We just got pounded with more snow so I will have to wait a few more weeks I think.
