Just got back from my run (3.4 miles)! I was feeling tired this morning, but glad I got out there. Jax joined me for the first mile so I was able to snap a photo while he was doing his thing. Pretty morning even if the sun wasn't shining.
When I get back from running, the first thing I want is breakfast. I'm totally a breakfast person. Always have been.

I was never one of those kids who was forced to eat breakfast. I always looked forward to my bowls of cereal. Cereal used to be my favorite food. In college, I'd have at least 4 boxes of cereal in my cupboard - always different flavors so that I'd have options for breakfast when I woke up. I used to make crazy cereal concoctions of fruit loops with those fiber sticks cereal (trying to be healthy) mixed with some sort of sugary yogurt. It was so glorious in my mind back then. Oddly, I do not crave that at all anymore. The days of my crazy sugary cereals are over because I've learned I wasn't really doing much good for myself with them and they really didn't fill me up.
Onto much better breakfasts in no particular order. I've linked each of these breakfasts to the recipes in case you are craving any of the below for breakfast too!
1 - I do still have a bowl of cereal here and there - probably once a week. I had a bowl after my run today. I like brown rice krispies (gluten free) with vanilla almond milk and a sliced banana. That's for a really quick breakfast, but I find it doesn't keep me full for long.
2 - Hot oatmeal or lately overnight oats have become my go to breakfast. I fill up an old peanut jar the night before with oats, ground flax, chia seeds, shredded coconut, and almond milk. In the morning, I stir it up and add more almond milk and a banana. This is a new breakfast love of mine, but at the moment I'm really hooked.
3 - Pancakes. Pancakes. Pancakes. I absolutely love pancakes! I never (ok, hardly ever) make pancakes during the week because it generally takes too much time, but the weekends are for those wonderful pancakes. Especially with a hot cup of coffee... I smother my pancakes in earth balance and just enough maple syrup for taste. I actually don't like my pancakes drenched in syrup. I haven't made pancakes in a bit and now I think it's about time I do...and soon! Here's my recipe.
4 - Protein Shakes have become another go to breakfast of mine because they are transportable. I can whip it together in the blender and then bring it to work making it nutritious and easy. Here are a two of the shakes I've made lately:
5 - And of course my macrobiotic inspired breakfast is grains and greens. I was eating a lot of brown rice and kale for breakfast during the colder weather, but lately I haven't been eating this as often. However, just writing about it is making me miss it a bit and I definitely want to start getting more in the grove with this breakfast again. I feel fantastic when I start my day with this. I heat leftover brown rice on the stove and steam or sauté some kale with a bit of shoyu. Then I add the rice and kale to a bowl and sprinkle with sunflower seeds. And then I feel like a champion.
So there are my 5 favorite breakfasts! A homemade latte on my way to work makes the morning just right too :)
What's your favorite breakfast???
Great list of breakfast. I'm huge into pancakes, smoothies, eggs, and oats.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day girl
xoxo
I am known as the breakfast girl to my friends. Its definitely my favorite meal of the day. I used to be a sugar cereal addict as well. I really try never to have it around me. My favorite breakfast is an English muffin with peanut butter or a huge bowl of puffed grain cereal and some fiber one.
ReplyDeleteYour running path looks nice and green!
Ohhh I so love breakfast! What's your favorite puffed grain? I really like kamut!
DeleteI love oatmeal for breakfast! I like regular oats and overnight oats. I have also recently been enjoying egg and vegetable scrambles.
ReplyDeleteYum! Thank goodness for oats...they make breakfast so much better!
DeleteI LOVE breakfast but for some reason never put much of an effort into it. I love a good bowl of cereal, oatmeal and a weekend splurge of french toast or waffles!
ReplyDeleteLoveee weekend splurges!
DeleteThis is really tough! I love the combination of toast and eggs, and I love waffle-wich sandwiches. But, cereal hold a big piece of my heart, too! ;)
ReplyDeleteCereal is just so special...I think it's because there are so many options!
DeletePancakes are probably my #1 favorite breakfast, but I don't think I've found a breakfast I'm not a fan of. I've actually pureed spinach into pancakes for St Patrick's day breakfast, still delicious :)
ReplyDeleteDang! Spinach in pancakes sounds genius! I've never been that creative, but sounds so good!
DeleteLooks like a great run - it's nice you found some good scenery =)
ReplyDeleteMy fav is overnight oats. SOOO GOOD! I was never much of a cereal person as a kid/teenager. But as an adult I love it, but I like making my own with oats, chopped up nuts and topping it with fresh fruit. Yum.
That homemade cereal sounds fantastic! What do you put in your overnight oats? :)
DeleteI'm definitely also a breakfast person, but I can't say I like the sounds of brown rice and kale so early in the morning! Hm...
ReplyDeletetook some getting used to, but now oddly really good!
DeleteI love breakfast time! Reading all these blogs about overnights oats I finally had to try it and I fell in love with it! My favorite is strawberry banana oatmeal! Drizzled with warm honey on top :)
ReplyDeleteWell that sounds fantastic too!
