June Running and July Goals

Hello hello hello!

It's already (almost) the end of June.  Another month of my training plan gone by...  Did I stick to it exactly?  Absolutely not.  BUT I did pretty good!  June was a really fun month of running.  I ran faster this month.

I've just returned from my morning run and I had planned to run 6, but it started raining (awe it felt refreshing) and then it started down pouring (ok, feeling hardcore...) and then my sneakers were soaked and I felt like I was running in buckets of water attached to my feet (not as hardcore feeling!)

Here's what June looked like (click to see larger).  The red is what was really run.  So instead of 6 miles today I actually ran 3.76.  I had put up the calendar of my June running yesterday, so sorry!  Otherwise, it's accurate.  The run for this Friday has obviously not happened yet, but 12 miles is the plan.

I worked hard this month and I did better at sticking to the miles.
My goal for July is definitely to run farther.  I have 16 mile run planned for mid July and that is something to look forward to and get excited about!  The majority of my long runs are in August, but July is an important month to set the base for those miles to come...

Hydration is also something I have become more conscious of.  It's been crazy hot here and I am the type of person who needs to be reminded to drink more water.  I'll go through a day and realize I've just had that iced coffee in the morning and that just doesn't cut it when I want to run.  I'm really good at drinking water while running and taking in food fuel as needed, but I want to drink more water throughout the day.

Sleep is another thing I need to embrace!  With the summer weather, I've been going to bed later.  Now that's fine on the weekends (except it makes getting in an early morning run tough), but during the work week it makes getting up at 6 o'clock difficult.  I'm going to try to go to bed earlier because I know that too will keep me healthy and strong.

Eating is very important too!  What I mean is that when marathon training, I need to really pay extra attention to my nutritional needs.  I eat a solid breakfast, lunch, and dinner with snacks in between.  That is what works best for me.  Lunches this week have been this awesome sprouted wheat bagel with hummus and sprouts - super delicious!

Lastly, I'm off to NYC on Friday for my best friend's Bachelorette weekend!!!  I'm doubting that I'll get in a run, but you never know.  That's why I want to get in that 12 miler prior.  So to any of you located in NYC - maybe I'll see you!  You won't be hearing from me probably until Monday, but I'll be saying hi on Twitter!
Have a fantastic rest of your week and I'll talk to you in July=)

How's your June been?  Are you good at staying hydrated?

  3. Do you use Outlook or another meeting calendar at work? When I've been slacking on the drinking, I like to post reminders ever hour or so to remind me to drink water. I even changed the alert sound to a water drop :)

  5. See, I'm the opposite - I hydrate really well throughout the day, but stubborn when I run. I don't wanna have anything with me or attached to me when I run, so I go without water. It's ok for 6 milers or less, but when I start increasing the distance, I SHOULD be hydrating :S I guess we'll see what happens!!

Have fun in NYC!!! I wanna see pics!!

Good start to your training. Next month is going to test you for sure, but you can handle it!

  7. I'm with Char...I'm great at hydrating during the day but I'm lazy in doing it while running! Must work on that for sure!

Great job on another month down in your training! 16 miles sounds really exciting and hardcore...that's some serious running!
