How was your Monday? I'd say it was definitely a Monday alright. I woke up in just enough time to shower, have a bowl of puffed kamut, get ready and go! But now it's Monday night and I just finished watering the sunflowers out back. They are really starting to grow, but no flowers yet. I'm listening to the Frank Sinatra station on Pandora. What can I say other than this station is totally relaxing to me...
I wanted to share my Saturday half marathon with you! I don't really plan whether I'll do my run on Saturday or Sunday, but simply just base it whether I get up early enough and if the humidity isn't ridiculous. Well Saturday morning I was up before 7 o'clock and the humidity had taken a break so I had to take advantage. I went out making the decision to run slower than I typically run.
Running slower made all the difference. My biggest thing is running out far enough to begin so I can get those miles in. I ran to the end of my development and it was only 1.8 miles out and for some reason I thought it would be a lot farther.
Around mile 10 my legs started to get tired, but I kept telling myself you've run this far, what's another few miles?
So that was my half marathon journey Saturday morning. And then of course I celebrated with some ice cream. This was a brand/flavor I had never tried and it was a huge hit (I had a bowl earlier tonight as well...)
Ok, time to talk about my new fuel! First, here is my fuel from Saturday - one water bottle, one with nuun tab, I ate 1/4 mojo bar around mile 7 and shot bloks sporadically starting at mile 3...
And my husband surprised me tonight with these lovelies on the doorstep...look at that flavor!!! Double Expresso. It's my coffee/running love all spun up together. I can't wait to try them out this week!
I also got electrolyte tabs which is crazy important this summer with the humidity. I've got a 4 miler, 6 miler, and 14 miler up ahead this week. We'll see how it goes. Other news - I'm giving a running group a try this weekend. There is a huge park by us that surrounds a beautiful lake and lots of trails. The group sets up 4 mile, 6 mile, 11 mile, and 15 mile trail runs. Last year 800 people participated. It's every Sunday until fall so I want to at least give it a shot and see if it's for me - I'll keep you posted :)
Have you ever joined a running group?
What's your favorite fuel when running/working out?
You are a beast! Look at that those splits! I'm jealous of your running group, I'd LOVE to join one! How'd you find out about them?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm doing it through Fleet Feet!!! I know there is a bunch of running groups through the Rochester Fleet Feet! Check out their site =)
DeleteWow! You just woke up and run a half-marathon! Super impressive :) Well deserved coconut bliss for sure. Chocolate hazelnut fudge sounds divine!
ReplyDeleteI tried a running group once and it wasn't for me. Haven't entirely ruled them out, just need to find one that works for me.
I don't think I've ever run long enough to have to fuel during my runs but now that I've started half-marathon training I probably should. Will definitely have to give the shot bloks a try!
Thank you! :) That's awesome that you are half-marathon training! I use fuel during halfs but everyone is different. I just found I feel better if I fuel around 6 miles. We'll see how the running group goes...
DeleteThat ice cream looks phenomenal! Congrats on the half... that's awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather! Oh the ice cream was TOO good!
