My NYC Experience

Well hello!

It's been a few days.  I hope all is well in your world =)

New York City was fantastic.  For starters, I ate delicious food.  One of my favorites was Friday nights pizza (at Otto Enoteca Pizzeria) made with a glorious dough, sauce and veggies.  The restaurant was more than happy to cater to my vegan pizza desire and it was incredible.  Yes, I got to eat the whole thing!

My other favorite food was a veggie burger on Saturday (at Punch).  Now I know you're probably thinking why a veggie burger when I can eat that anytime, but this was so not your regular veggie burger.  It was made with avocado and peas, and was by far the best veggie burger I've ever had.  It was decorated with red roasted peppers and sprouts which made it extra special.   Of course a pile of fries is always a bonus too.

Ok, so as you might know that I'm really bad at sleeping in.  So even though we went to bed way crazy late for me on Friday, I was still up at 7:30 come Saturday morning.  I thought a good treadmill run would be smart.  I was fumbling around in the dark trying not to wake any of the other ladies so I forget to put in my contacts.  I didn't realize I didn't have my contacts in until I actually stepped on the treadmill and had to focus on getting it started.  That was a slightly blurry treadmill run.  What a goof I was.  I went much slower than usual, but happily got in a nice 4 miles...

And then there was Starbucks.  Of course the closest one was just across the street from our hotel.  I love Starbucks in major cities because they have awesome food that the Starbucks by me doesn't have.  I got a hearty veggie and brown rice salad bowl (made with brown rice, butternut squash, broccoli, peas, roasted beets, kale red cabbage and roasted tomatoes) after my run, along with Evolution super green juice (crazy yum!), and a multigrain bagel.  Thank you Starbucks

Saturday afternoon consisted of window shopping, a Starbucks Refresher (1/2 price after 3!), and going to Dream Dry!  Now Dream Dry is the sort of place totally unfamiliar to me.  They don't cut hair here, it's simply a place to get your hair washed, blown out and/or styled.  Basically hair heaven.  I wish they could do my hair every day for work.  It took the girl less than 10 minutes to do my hair - impressive!

The weekend continued with more eating and celebrating for my friend's Bachelorette!  I got to ride in many cabs (which is big for me because I live in the suburbs back home) and just enjoy the life and energy of the city.

Getting home was a bit crazy.  My flight was eventually cancelled as I sat at LaGuardia which led me to transfer from LaGuardia airport to JFK in an attempt to hop on another flight and then deal with the delays that further ensued.  I became a more patient person Sunday (well I hope) and relaxed my standards (as I slept on the airport floor) and eventually I did get home to my hubby and pups =)  I won't disgust you with the details, but I became inexplicable ill early Sunday morning making traveling home a further challenge.  Sunday was an incredibly trying day, but I'm better for it.

I also just watched a Documentary called Hungry for Change (as I recuperate from Sunday's experience) and I'm really excited to chat with you about it.  If you're into documentaries, this is a great one on Netflix.  Especially if you're a health food nut like myself.  I'll chat more about it soon!

I feel lucky to have celebrated with my friend and all the wonderful ladies that joined.  Several of the ladies were also marathon runners and bikers and I was so inspired to hear their experiences.  So that's NYC wrapped up.

Have you been to NYC?  Have you ever had a horrible flying experience?

  3. Sorry to hear you got sick, but I'm glad you had a nice weekend. I actually really love getting pizzas without cheese (even though I eat cheese) because I love veggies and pizza sauce, that sauce looks pretty tasty!

  5. We have wayyyy too much in common! Of course we both visited NYC the same weekend!
I also used to live a block away from Otto! The pizza is unbelievably good. My friend was telling be all about Dream Dry (she had gotten it done that day).
My flight was super delayed (thankfully not cancelled) out of LaGuardia. I'm sorry you had to deal with such a hassle.
And of course I also loved Hungry For Change :)

Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend!

  6. Ooh that hair place sounds awesome! What a great idea to just have a quick style done-- yours looks super pretty!

I've only been to NYC once for a Yankee game. It was about one million degrees, we got lost on the subway and the Yankees lost. Needless to say, I need a NYC re-do one day! ;-)
