Running & Eats

Hey!

I've noticed that on the days I do short/faster runs, I'm hungry all day.  However, last Saturday when I ran 20 miles, my hunger wasn't really anything out of the ordinary.  Odd.  Yesterday, I did a short run, but I tried to run faster the whole time.

I wasn't quite hungry immediately after running so I made a protein shake.

My Current Post Run Shake:

½ banana
½ cup coconut water
½ cup unsweetened almond milk
1 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 scoop Sunwarrior Protein Powder

Delicious!

Sometimes I have a bowl of oatmeal with walnuts as well for breakfast, especially if I’m getting hungry even after the shake.

When I get to work I’ve been having a sprouted wheat bagel with Tofutti.  That general gets me through the morning.

Lunch is often a salad – baby spinach greens and a cucumber topped with Italian dressing and Vegan parmesan cheese yesterday.  That cucumber was homegrown and definitely the best I've had.  My husband gets the credit for that for sure!

Snacks – Nectarines!  I’ve been having two a day.

Dinners this week so far include lentil stew over brown rice / quesadillas with black beans rice and daiya / sesame tofu over baked sweet potato with side of sautéed kale and spinach and brown rice.

My after dinner snack has been lots of watermelon.  My husband and I have gone through 2 large watermelons so far this week.  It's just so good!

I  know I could be eating more fruits and veggies, but I’ve been doing pretty good.  I’ve been loving my carbs lately, but that’s to be expected with my running.  I’ve also been making myself iced coffee with almond milk for the drive into work.  That 20 miler last Saturday did tire me out, but I had a great 6 miler on Monday and 4 miler on Wednesday.  I’m planning for 10 miles tomorrow before work.

This weekend I’m off to North Carolina for my friend’s Bachelorette Party! =)
No long run this weekend, but planning for 22 miles the following weekend.  Woo!

What food have you been eating a lot of lately?

  1. I'm the same way. On days when I do really long runs I barely want to eat anything. Maybe our stomachs are a little done being tossed around? :) On days when I don't run I want to eat everything in site!

  3. I think you are eating a lot of fruits and vegetables! I find that I am always hungry after doing a workout or long run and I feel like a bottomless pit. Maybe you do a really good hob replenishing your calories after a run so your body has gotten good at stabilizing your appetite?!

  4. I always find my hunger is raging the day after working out but not necessarily the day of...so strange. Been eating peaches like it's my job lately. I wish it could be peach season all year round!

    Have a great trip!!!

  5. Just found your blog and love it! Especially your dog, so cute! :) I look forward to reading more.

I'm new to running long distances and am no where near as fast as you but I'm always hungry after a run.

And I'm going to miss watermelon once fall gets here; I love that stuff.
