More Rest and a Wedding Weekend!

Hi!

I just finished breakfast.  It was so good.  Sometimes I eat odd things for breakfast, but when it's good for you and tastes great, it doesn't matter.

I have a very short week this week.  Basically my workweek ends after today and the rest is a wedding week!  Two of my best friends are getting married this weekend – one on Friday evening and the other on Saturday.  And the crazy awesome part is they both chose the same venue so I’m just staying overnight on Friday and then going to wedding #2 on Saturday.  My best friend from high school gets married on Friday and I get to be a bridesmaid – woo!  And then my childhood BFF (she was my MOH last year) gets married Saturday, and I’m her MOH!  So like I said total wedding week.

I’ve got to practice my MOH speech for the Saturday wedding this week.  I get very nervous public speaking, but my husband is giving me good pointers (he’s a teacher) and really I just feel so honored to be standing up for my friend at the wedding that I just want to enjoy the moment.  I hope I don’t start crying because every time I practice the speech I get all teary eyed.  I will absolutely have lots of pictures for you next week.

Ok, onto my race/running plan.  I did my last long run before the Marathon on Monday18 miles conquered.  I had initially planned for 22 miles, but I am not complaining one bit.  Aside from my IT band getting very tight and causing knee tightness on the outside of my left knee, the run was easy.  But the knee issue I’m dealing with right now is a very big deal to me and not something I am taking lightly.  I will not be running this week and I’m not sure about next week yet.  I plan on cross training, foam rolling, icing, those compression capris are on their way in the mail to me (and I might just wear them under my bridesmaid dresses all weekend), and resting

I am still not sure if I will run the marathon.  I have to be feeling really good because it is not worth injuring myself.  I want to run it so bad and aside from the last week, I have had such a breeze (but hard work) of training the last 4 months.  However, I refuse to let myself get super bummed because I’m so lucky to have put in the miles and all the glorious/fun/happy runs I did.  If my body needs to rest on this one, that’s the way it will be.  I probably won’t touch on this subject again for another week or two because that’s when I plan to make my final decision.

Foam rolling has become my new best friend.  I get up in the morning and roll after walking the pups and then foam roll more while watching a TV show at night (like Big Bang Theory or Two and Half Men – my husband and I are hooked on the reruns right now because they are so funny!).  Yesterday at work I did take ibuprofen just because I wanted to be comfortable, but really I don’t like to take it.  I have to admit though, it did help me yesterday.  I never would take any sort of medication before running though.

So that’s my update.  I hope you have a nice week.  I’ll be on Twitter and adding pictures to Instagram over the next few days, but it will be silent here because I’ll be hanging out with the brides!

How’s your week?

Did you ever have a training program get cut short due to any sort of injury?

  2. My half marathon was cut short thanks to my IT band but I could barely run a mile without pain! If you can get through 18 miles I think you can hold out for the marathon but again don't want you injuring yourself.

Have a wonderful time at both weddings :)

  3. I have been rolling and rolling the past few weeks. My knee has actually been pretty good this week (fingers crossed). My half is in a three weeks (eeek) so I hope I don't run into any big problems. Have a great time at the weddings this weekend! :)

  4. That's a crazy busy wedding week, I don't know how you're doing it! I'm in ONE wedding later in the month and the bride is pretty much sequestering her bridesmaids from Wednesday - Saturday. Seriously.

  5. I share your fear of public speaking and I am the MOH at a wedding in May. Please let me know your tips! Have a fabulous time at your TWO weddings - what a beautiful way to spend a weekend!

SO happy to hear about your 18 miler - GO GIRL GO! Keep nursing those knees and make the decision to run or not to run once you really know what's going on.

    Happy Wednesday!

    1. Thanks so much! So I've read through my speech a few times and practiced on my husband and dogs - good listeners lol! I just want to enjoy the moment so I'm going to try to forget there is 150 people watching!

  6. How nice of them to coordinate for you - making what could have been an otherwise stressful weekend, extra fun instead!

And major kudos for being smart. Serious IT issues take a long time to heal. Better to nip it in the bud, to avoid a lengthy stay on the Disabled list. Hope the stretching/strengthening/resting/CWXing/pampering get it marathon-ready for this season, though!
