Let's Just Chat

Hey there!

It has been a really long time since I just chatted with you.  I know I've been updating you weekly on my pregnancy journey and I love doing that, but I used to just ramble about a whole lot of nothing (well a lot about my running and eating), and so today I'm here to do that.

Yup, that's water from Starbucks.  I'll get back to those lattes soon enough.

So how are you?!

Sometimes I can't believe it's already May of 2014.  I know that sounds strange, but truly the time just flies.  It's been a year since I started training for that marathon and wow what a blast I had.  I'll always remember that 20 mile run that just felt effortless.  I am really looking forward to getting back into running this fall.  As you've probably noticed, I've taken a break from running right now.  It wasn't necessarily planned, but between pregnancy and the longest winter ever, running just didn't happen.

I don't think 26 weeks pregnant is really the best time to begin running again (ha!) so I think sticking to power walks it will be.  But baby boy and his jogger stroller better get ready for fall because I will be back out there.  I still have goals of another marathon (and maybe even an ultra).  I just plan on taking it as it comes... I have no idea where I stand with that IT band injury from late last summer.  I went to PT and did my exercises and then I just sort of forgot about it.  Or maybe there were just too many other things going on in life that it no longer was my focus.  I've definitely taken a solid break from running though so I'm hoping it's been healing.

Are you training for any races right now?

Baby boy is due in 3 months!  It's pretty impossible to imagine what life will be like when he arrives.  And that's the beauty of it.  I'm just enjoying this time preparing for his arrival.  I'm beyond excited, happy, anxious, and nervous all mixed into a big bundle of love.  I guess every new parent probably feels that way.  I know I can only prepare so much and then I'll learn as I go.  One thing I know for sure though is baby boy will be so loved.

I'm starting to think about labor.  I've read many other bloggers child birth stories.  I really have appreciated how other first-time mom's have documented it.  It's very comforting to read.  So when I say preparing, that's what I mean.  Thank you for sharing your pregnancy journeys!  But child birth classes do start in another month, so I'm hoping to get a bit more comfortable with the process during the classes.

Are you a first-time momma-to-be?  How's your pregnancy going?

The last year has been filled with ups and downs, amazing days, and tougher ones.  I've learned a lot and I've grown a lot too.  I think one of the best things about blogging is the fact that it documents life.  It's so easy to forget moments in time and I really appreciate having this space to do it.  So thanks for being a part of that!

What are you up to this weekend?

  1. I'm a second timer (pregnancy) and with the first I ran until about 20 weeks and had to stop because it felt weird. I'm now 22 weeks and I am still running albeit more of like a wog and I think it may stop soon too. I'm really not as active this go around (having a toddler will do that - take up that free time you used to go to the gym with) so I don't really want to stop, but I may not have a choice! I remember, though, last time even though I quit running early in those last days I started again as trying to jump start later (it didn't help I was induced at 42 weeks anyways...) It's crazy just how fast pregnancy really goes!

    1. That's awesome that you ran! I wish I had run from the beginning, but it just couldn't happen due to the weather. 42 weeks - you're a champ! I hope your second pregnancy is going great! :)

  2. I am training for a half marathon on June 1st. I agree with this winter feeling really long, and while I am not pregnant nor have I ever had any children, I fell out of running shape because I just abhor the treadmill and focused on strength training this winter. It feels good to be out on the road again, but definitely a frustrating process as I know I am not as fast as I was last summer. I am hoping to get there... slowly but surely!

Love your blog and hope you are enjoying the sunshine!

    1. Thanks for following my blog! It will definitely be interesting when I get back into running. I know the first few weeks will be tough. I miss the road. Enjoy your runs and the sun!

  3. I am almost 16 weeks along in my first pregnancy and after a rough first trimester (lots of nausea and heartburn, coupled with a 4 hour commute every day and a job change - plus let's not forget planning a wedding that will be happening tomorrow, on Saturday!) I finally feel a lot more like myself, the spots have cleared up (mostly ... back still doesn't look so great) and I can't wait to find out if we're having a little lady or a little guy :-)

I didn't exercise during my first trimester for the above-mentioned reasons (plus all that made me just so so exhausted next to eating away all my time) but have slowly gotten back into a little bit of yoga, lots of walking and I also got the "pregnancy project" dvd by tracy anderson. I haven't done that loads (plus I have mixed feelings about the dvd - she just doesn't explain moves very well) but just to move my body a little made me be more in tune with my body again.

I love following your updates along, Emily!!

    Hugs from Germany,

    1. Thanks for following my updates. I'm so excited for you to find out whether you're having a boy or girl! I was wondering about the Tracy Anderson video - thanks for sharing. I'm just sticking to walking right now. I definitely feel better too when I do some exercise. I hope you are feeling great and best of luck throughout your pregnancy!!!

  4. I can already picture you out there with the running stroller! If your baby boy is anything like you he's gonna be a little runner himself!
