Half Marathon, good eats, and sunshine!

Hello!  I hope your weekend was wonderful.  Mine was full of family fun, good eats, sunshine, and that half marathon!

On Saturday, I got my hair highlighted in the morning and then spent the rest of the day with family, and it was SO SUNNY!  Definitely the most gorgeous weekend we've had.  I had gotten a pedicure with my mom on Friday so my toes also enjoyed the sun and I wore sandals for the first time.  Jax got to visit his buddy, Lincoln, who lives at my mother-in-laws.  They too enjoyed the great weather.

The day suddenly passed so instead of making homemade pasta, we went out... Oh it was so good.  Look at those tofu cabbage wraps.  Even if they do not sound appetizing to you (I was skeptical the first time I had them), they will soon blow your mind.  Outstanding!

And then there was the peanut noodle salad.  All time favorite and great pre-race, night before meal!  Had to make sure I was hydrating with that h2o too...

And Sunday was the half marathon!!!  It was not an easy race.  I ran an 8:27 pace which is great for me, but not my personal best (that was my last half marathon in September of 2012, when I ran an 8:17 pace).  The weather was beautiful, the course was fantastic, and I'm so grateful for all my family that came out and cheered me on.  I look really happy in that picture because I am running by my family.

I never felt really good during the race.  No part of it was effortless, but it was a blast.  I am so thankful for the woman that found me around mile 9.  We had been going back and forth passing each other for a bit so we were definitely at about the same speed.  She approached me and said "let's finish this race strong together" - what a HUGE help!  She helped me go faster than I would have and it was really encouraging having her work really hard next to me.  I think she had a little more energy in her than I did, but I really wanted to keep up with her.  And we finished together!

My husband took that picture at the end of the race.  What a wonderful moment!

I'm very sore today and quite tired, but that's to be expected.  It reminds me of what I achieved yesterday.  And now I get to start thinking about my training for a marathon (I'll be chatting about that soon!)

Time to get ready for work.  Thanks for all your encouragement on Friday regarding the half marathon.

I hope you too had a marvelous weekend!

Would you try tofu cabbage rolls?

  6. Congrats on finishing another great race. I love your picture mid stride. I am not a fan of cabbage but I might like it as a "wrap"

    1. Thank you! I'm not a cabbage fan either but these make you feel like you aren't eating cabbage (if that makes sense!)

  7. Wow, AMAZING pace! I'm so jealous! I ran it too and I completely underestimated the course. I agree that no part of it was effortless! Especially the cemetery, I just wanted OUT OF THERE and it felt never ending! I wish I would have spotted you, but you were wayyyyyyy ahead of me, haha! Great job, get some rest if your legs are feeling anything like mine! ;-)
