Braving The Heat & Run Chat Three

It's Friday.  How fantastic.  I just got back from my toughest run yet.  The heat and my stomach were not having a blast this morning.  I'm smiling in this picture because I DID IT though.

During miles 1-3 I just told myself "If you need to stop, then stop.  It's OK!"

Then somewhere around mile 4 the blah feeling started to fade and I knew I'd finish the run just fine.  I drank all the liquid in my fuel belt - bottle of water and one bottle with nuun tab.

Almost the weekend...I want to just hangout with my family this weekend.  I really should clean out my car too because it would look so much nicer if I threw out the old Starbucks cups and cleaned up the pile of clothes (that I want to donate) that has filled the backseat, and oh if I vacuumed the dog hair, it would look SO NICE.  That is a goal of mine - maybe it will happen this weekend (no promises).  I'm actually a very tidy person and if you saw my desk at work you wouldn't expect me to have a mess of a car, but I do.  What can I say?

And then I'm trying out that Running Group on Sunday morning - hoping to get in a 14 mile run (and it's only supposed to be in the 70's!).  I'll let you know next week how it went (hopefully).

I've made the decision I will no longer complain about the heat.  Because really it's super awesome.  It's been in the 90's all week and I have gone on a walk on lunch everyday and just soaked up the warmth.  I was particularly disgusting after yesterday's walk because I swear it was a whole other level of hot yesterday.  Let me just say that the Orange Refresher from Starbucks is my new favorite.  Although, I'm not allowing myself to go to Starbucks next week AT ALL (all homemade iced coffees!) because I was such a Starbucks junkie this week - I'm totally blaming it on the [wonderful] heat.

Time for the running quote of the day!

I'm overwhelmed by the strength of my body and the power of my mind.  For one moment, just one second,
I feel immortal.
(Diana Nyad - long distance swimmer)

Do you ever have a moment like that?  I noticed this imparticular on my 13.1 mile run last Saturday, that I had a few moments of pure bliss.  Really it was like for a few seconds, I forgot I was running and my body was just doing the work without me thinking about it.

I would quickly remember I was running and think about how much farther I had to go and how I was feeling.  But there was a moment.  And I think the power of the mind is the most interesting part.  I've said it before, but I think running is often much more a mind challenge than physical - definitely not always the case though!  This morning was definitely a physical battle.

I'm off to work and then onto the weekend... I hope you've got some fun plans ahead or some beautiful relaxation.

Tell me something about your week =)

  1. I am the same way! My apartment and desk at work are super tidy and clean 99% of the time. My car is a whole different story! It is a mess and dirty and desperately needs to be washed and vaccuumed. For some reason I never get around to it though...

  3. I love the Starbucks refreshers, my fav is the cool lime. Way to go on your run. I thought about doing my tempo run before work but I needed the sleep. This weekend is pretty chill and I can't wait!

Good Luck with the running group.

  4. Good luck on your 14 mile run this weekend! I'm glad it's starting to cool down -- the yard realllllly needs to be mowed, and it's just not safe in the heat ;-)

  5. You are awesome for running in this heat! Every morning I think "I should go out for a run before it gets toooooo hot" and then I somehow find myself back in bed sleeping. I need some of your motivation!

Also, I cleaned out my car a few days ago and it's a mood changer! I had 1500 Dunkin Donuts receipts and straw wrappers and a bunch of junk that had to go. I hope you get to clean yours too!

  6. New reader here (hopped over from Allee's blog :) ) - congrats on getting out in the heat! As someone who lives in a hot place, I can assure you - it may never be quite as nice as a brisk fall day, but it does get EASIER. Hang in there! And if a Refresher is what's motivating you to get out, there, I say - Dangle that carrot for yourself, girl! :)

And as for the car? I strongly suggest checking out how much it would cost for your carwash to do an interior clean for you. When I lived in the US, I realized that an extra $6 on my carwash would get me a reasonably good interior cleaning - I decided it was worth the money every 2 months. I cleaned out any accumulated stuff that didn't belong in the car. Then, I took it to the carwash and sat in a waiting room, they cleaned my car, I stopped beating myself up over NOT cleaning my car, and the whole cleaning process only took about 15 minutes.
