A Little Update

Hi there!

Here’s a little update on my life so you know where I’ll be when I’m not posting as much for a bit.  Last Saturday morning my husband and I woke up and heard a noise coming from around the refrigerator.  It was hard to pinpoint what it was though.  It kind of sounded like air coming out.  Hmmm…strange.  That morning we had plans to get our Christmas tree so we went down to the garage to get the lights and that’s when we saw it.  Water was leaking from the ceiling of our garage, which meant really it was coming from the kitchen as we live in a split ranch.  Ohhh that must be what the strange noise from upstairs was.  Turns out it was the tube that leads to the ice maker in the refrigerator – nice little hole in the tube.

Let’s just say we still got our Christmas tree that morning, but our house is in clean-up mess/renovation mode now.  We’ve been chilling each night with the company handling the cleanup (so grateful for them).  No, we did not plan to get a new kitchen floor this year or to redo our bathroom, but it’s happening.  Now that the refrigerator is no longer in the middle of our kitchen (as the floor dries out), things are much more functional.  If you look in our family room all is beautiful.  There’s the comfy couch with happy Christmas tree in our front windows (just don’t turn around and look at the kitchen).

What a learning experience!  We moved into our home last March so this is our first major house thing that went wrong.  But we are just taking it with a smile and looking at the bright side.  Yes, our bathroom might not be functioning for a bit (thankfully there’s another downstairs) and you definitely need a pair of shoes when you walk in the kitchen, and there might be large noisy fans in our garage… but that’s ok.  I just keep thinking of how it will look when we get to pick out new floors and a new look.

So I might not be posting as much for a bit.  Things are going to get busy with the holidays as well and my Macrobiotic studies come January, but I’m still here.  And I can’t wait to show you pictures when the work is complete!

How are you?  Ever deal with water damage at your home?

  1. Sorry to hear the problems - but glad it is under control! The joys of home ownership!

In our house in Massachusetts we had all sorts of fun things over the years - and specific to water we ended up with ice dams that worked into the roof and destroyed our dining room ceiling (meaning we needed a new roof and ceiling! Our basement was always damp, but we discovered that the builder who made the development had actually shifted a stream, and through the years it was moving back! Makes me wonder what it looks like now!

Hope things go well and you guys have a great holiday!

  2. A few years ago we had a huge fire in my house. It definitely throws you for a loop but you come to realize that it's just stuff and it's the people who matter :)

  3. Sorry to hear about that :( My house has been a whole mess of homewoner responsibilities. Between the tree that was slowly falling on my house ($2000 to remove!!!), my garage door motor busting sending the door down to break in half, and a leak in the wall in my bathroom, I've had a lot of household misshaps in 2 years. I didn't plan on redoing my bathroom this year, either, but I don't think there's any other option when you have to tear out the walls, tile, and flooring, ha.

Best of luck with your project! I know all too well this is a terrible time of year for this kind of thing to happen.

  4. Oh my goodness - I am so so sorry that this has happened. You have the most wonderful attitude about it and the bright side is definitely that you get a new floor and bathroom. Keep your head up, my dear! Can't wait to see what the new stuff looks like.
