Hey There February

Hello!

It's already February!  Does that mean Spring is coming soon?  Doesn't look like it around here as I just heard on the radio that we're expecting close to 10 inches of snow in the next day.  But really it's OK for it to snow in February, but how about we get some sunshine come March and maybe even the snow can melt then...

I've made it a goal to walk the dogs (power walk) for at least 20 minutes every morning.  Now that might not be a challenge for some, but between the freezing temperatures lately and my sleeping in too late, it's been one for me.  I really can't walk the dogs when it's below zero because they start limping and I'm numb the second we walk out the door, and that's just no fun all around.  But then I feel bad because they are home all day and they really deserve to get out in the morning.  The past two mornings my walks have been interesting...

To avoid ice, I've been trenching through the snow.  I actually got warm enough to take off my hat yesterday, which I immediately proceeded to lose.  I was mad that I lost it because it's my favorite hat, so I retraced my whole walk just to find it.  So really the dogs got double the walk on Monday.  Turns out my hat had fallen out of my pocket at the almost beginning of my walk and into a yard with a small crazy yelping dog.  That was interesting trying to get my hat while holding onto my dogs all the while all the dogs are barking and jumping at each other.  I bet they were wishing each other happy Monday ;)

And then this morning, just as I was nearing the end of my walk, a happy looking Golden Retriever appeared in his yard.  I walk on trails that are surrounded by houses, so there is some distance between the yard and trail; however, this dog definitely was crossing his boundaries which truly pissed off my dogs as they started darting toward this (not-so-happy) Golden Retriever.  Thank goodness the owner was outside and he came running after his dog.  My two dogs and I are about equal weight so generally I can hold them back, but it kind of freaked me out this morning because I didn't have my same balance being on the snow.  I think I'm going to wait until the ice melts a bit before I walk them together again - I might just have to walk them separately to be safe.

In other news, my husband and I have become obsessed with Game of Thrones.  We watched that instead of the Superbowl on Sunday.  I'm not a football lover anyways.  Do you watch Game of Thrones?!

I've also been doing my Macrobiotic studies!  It's so inspiring and just reminds me of this beautiful gift that life is.  My latest readings were all about balance.  Not the type of balance where you're walking on a tightrope and if you don't stay balanced you'll fall off.  No, this is a much happier and confident balance.  It's the type of balance you find through eating natural foods that us humans are supposed to be eating.  Like grains, vegetables, seeds, nuts...not processed sugary boxed up garbage.  I love being reminded of how the power is in my hands to feel my best and it starts with how I eat.  That's a wonderful thing.

I'm still at the very beginning of my studies, but I can't wait to share more as I get in deeper.

Yesterday night I went to great Italian restaurant with some ladies from work and happily binged on bread in a spicy tomato sauce and a big bowl of pesto.  I got a garden salad as well just to get some veggies in there.  Pasta just tastes even better in this cold.

Tonight I'm thinking we're going to cook sesame tofu because we've got lots of tofu in the fridge along with sweet potatoes and spinach.  Is it dinner time yet?!

Hope you have a great week!

Do you have a dog?  What's your favorite meal in cold weather?

  1. This is pretty precisely why I won't let Josh have a dog haha. He would get too lazy in the winter to go out in the snow. Glad you tough it out for you boys :)

  2. We have two Norfolk Terriers, which are about 15lbs each (but are forces of nature!). We have an invisible fence system that allows them to run around the yard for a little bit without getting into trouble before coming back in (they are not fans of the cold!). Then in the summer we can all be out together without worrying that they will chase a squirrel down the street or whatever.

Glad your classes are going well!
