Pregnancy Journey - 29 Weeks

Hey!

Ready for some 29 week updates?

Weight:  19 pounds gained.  Woah!  That means I essentially put on close to 3 pounds in the last two weeks.  Baby boy is growing fast now.

Family walk with my hubby and parents on Sunday

Body:  Belly is growing!  This is the first week that people really commented on my belly.  One day at work I wore a tighter fitting shirt that really showed off my midsection, so I think that was a big part of it.  I often wear looser, flowing tops, so the tighter top really showed off baby boy.

Heartburn has been more frequent when I lay down to go to sleep at night.  Luckily it hasn't been too bad during the day.

I had another fainting experience while driving to work on Friday morning.  It was really scary.  I wasn't feeling fantastic as I started my drive, but I blamed the crappy weather because it tends to do that to me.  However, ten minutes into my drive, I felt an extreme rush of faintness/nausea.  I immediately pulled over to the side of the road (on the expressway), turned my air conditioning way up, cracked a window, and just sat for a few moments.  I felt horrible.  I really thought I was going to faint in my car.  I was all worked up so I couldn't figure out how to make my seat go back.  I finally got it to go back and laid down on my left side and soon enough I felt better.  I called my doctor because I wanted to bring her in the loop.  After about 15-20 minutes, I felt better (very tired), but much better.  The whole experience definitely shook me up.

I went to the doctor this morning for my routine checkup.  I actually was feeling a bit loopy/faint when I got there so I was very happy to be able to talk to her.  I started to get really warm and had that faint feeling while sitting in her office.  She gave me some apple juice and literally within two minutes I felt better.  I felt wiped out, but much more stable.    Essentially what I found out is that I am prone to low blood sugar.  This isn't something brand new to me as I've always had to eat frequently, but it is exacerbated now.  I've only actually fainted once, but I'd say this was the fifth time where I've felt the waive of it wash over me.  Essentially what was learned from my sugar test is that when I was given the glucola drink (high amount of sugar), rather than feeling a sugar spike, my blood sugar plummets leaving me feeling horrible - spacey, warm, faint...  I plan to make a few tweaks in my diet hoping that it makes a difference.  Basically no empty carbs and I must eat frequently.  I'm going to aim for more protein at breakfast too.

Sleep:  Getting (and staying) comfortable is my biggest challenge right now.  Love extra pillows for support.  Overall though I have slept quite well.  A solid 6 hours of sleep with no interruptions is a beautiful thing.

Cravings:  Nothing really stands out too much.  I'm eating round the clock though, every two hours for sure.  As stated above, I really start to feel bad if I go longer without eating.  I'm certainly still enjoying my smoothies.

From Oh She Glows Cookbook:  Made of mango, pineapple, kale, ginger, banana, and lime juice!

Best Moment(s):  Last Thursday was our first birthing class.  It was awesome.  We all introduced ourselves and said our due date and biggest fear when it comes to labor.  It was a nice class size of around 20 moms and dads.  Our teacher basically did a general overview of labor and we watched three clips of different scenarios.  One was a lady that had planned on getting an epidural, but quickly got to 8 centimeters and missed her window.  She surprised herself by getting through labor without the help of medication.  Another woman was in labor for 30 hours + and really felt the epidural helped her.  The last woman was only at the hospital an hour before her baby was born.  It went much quicker for her than she anticipated.  Really the video was just to show us that you can't really plan your labor and that being flexible is the way to go because you just don't know how it's going to happen.

My favorite part of the night was when all the us moms each sat on a mat with each of our coaches (mine is my husband).  We did stretching and breathing exercises together, and all us ladies got a back massage from our coach.  I felt so relaxed.  I can definitely see using those stretches and getting a massage while in labor.  Although it was just the first class, it gave me a sense of confidence about labor - well more than I felt before.  That feeling of "YES, I can do this!"  It may be painful and really hard, but getting to see our baby at the end of it will make it all worth while.

The long weekend was spectacular.  My brother just bought a condo and I'm so happy for him.  Therefore, my husband and dad worked hard moving him in.  I just supervised and watched all the dogs.  There's four pups between my parents and us, so they kept me busy enough.

Sunday was our nephew's fourth birthday party!  The weather could not have been better and it was a great afternoon with the family.  He's a wonderful little boy and it's so fun watching him grow.  He loves Bob the Builder so we all got into character at the end of the party for pictures.

On Monday, my husband and I got stuff done!  Lots of errands were run to work on the gardens.  I grocery shopped.  We walked the dogs.  Spontaneously, we decided it would make a great date day and we went to Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (local restaurant) for lunch.  It was definitely a special treat for both of us.  I had a massive salad with walnuts and veggies, mac & cheese, and black beans and rice.  It ended up conveniently being lunch and dinner because the portions were huge.

Goals:  Finish my baby shower thank you notes, relax lots, eat well, and just enjoy the third trimester!

  2. I'm glad you're safe after the incident in the car. That's so scary! Hopefully the changes to your diet will help! I've fainted a few times too, but from my overactive brain in needle situations. Fainting is not fun…especially when pregnant and DRIVING! Stay safe!! That smoothie looks so good! I need to make one like that asap! I never put ginger in my smoothie…I think I might need to start! Glad you had a good weekend!

    1. Fainting is totally not fun! Makes me feel so out of control. That was the first time I had put ginger in my smoothie and I really liked it. Let me know what you think. Great addition!

  4. Your bump's adorable! They seem to grow so fast at this stage. I struggled to gain most of pregnancy, but we're making up for it now as she gets bigger :) I'm trying to relax and enjoy third trimester, too, not get too overwhelmed with the final prep stuff. We can do it!
