Welcoming November & My Reading List

Hey, November.

I am welcoming November with open arms and a big hug!  A fresh month is a beautiful thing.  October was a whirlwind and I’m embracing November by recognizing all the things in my life that I’m thankful for.  Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away and that’s a very special day to give thanks, but for me, it’s important to recognize something that I’m grateful for everyday.  Each day I’m going to write my something I’m thankful for down in a notebook that I carry in my purse and I plan to share some of that with you as well.  Feel free to join along this month and take the time to focus on something you too are appreciative of each day.

I’ve had some tough days lately, but even on my hard days I recognize the fact that I am blessed to wake up and have a job to go to each morning, a loving family, and a beautiful home that provides shelter over my head, and I am never without food or clothing – and I am in fact blessed with a beautiful wardrobe and a fridge always full of food.

As you may have noticed from my posts, I have been focusing lately a lot on my passions.  I made the leap of signing up for courses to become a Macrobiotic Counselor in 2014 and I recently signed up for a certification course to become a Vegan Lifestyle Coach (that’s not until May 2014).  My interest in these things began in fall of 2009, and now fours year later, they have only grown and I’m finally ready to take the step to pursue these interests of mine.  And for being able to take this leap, I am incredibly thankful.

I also want to tell you (my readers) how grateful I am for your support.  Being a part of this online community is such a cool thing!  I stumbled across it a year ago while searching the web about plant-based diets and couldn’t wait to make my own website.  I had no idea how to make a site, and wow if you saw (maybe you did) what my site originally looked like, but I learned.  And I continue to learn every day from your comments and posts.  Thank you for inspiring me.

So onto my reading list!  I have books I need to read prior to my Vegan Lifestyle Coach training in May so they’ve all been added to my list.  I just started The China Study by T. Colin Campbell two days ago and I’m already hooked.  Oh I love reading about the power of food!

Emily’s Reading List:

Insurgent (Divergent, Book 2) by Veronica Roth (obviously this one is just my fiction fun reading)

The Food Revolution by John Robbins

Becoming Vegan by Brenda Davis

Fit From Within by Victoria Moran

The World Peace Diet by Will Tuttle

Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows by Melanie Joy

I have plans to spend time at Barnes & Noble (with another Venti Peppermint Tea) this weekend.

What do you look forward to as we step into November?  Have you read any of the books on my reading list?

  1. I haven't read any of the books but I know that I would love the divergent series so I must get on that. I'm so excited for you on this new adventure. Can't wait to hear how classes are going once they start!

  2. I am working through Allegiant (the last book in the Divergent series). I won't spoil anything since you're still on #2. I just started getting 'Vegetarian Times' with the November issue and hope to integrate one dish into our Thanksgiving dinner .. maybe something with squash ...
