Confessions of a New Mama (Three)

Howdy!

I'm back again for some fun confessions.  So let's get at it!

Confession #1 - Trader Joe's is my new favorite food shopping joint.  Mainly because they've made dinners during the work week 1000% easier and I don't feel guilty about it being unhealthy even though it's super quick (as in heat and eat).  I just went there for the first time a few weeks ago after a friend gave me a gift card and it was love at first sight.  Sage, my hubby & I all had a great time and we came home with a lot of food and didn't even break the bank!  I got a pizza with kale and butternut squash, butternut squash ravioli, chocolate covered almonds, and fresh organic wheat bread (which I never find not frozen or its crazy expensive!) just to name a few items.  I love Wegmans, but the last two weeks we went to TJ's instead and I'm hooked.

Confession #2 - I absolutely love baby wearing. It is so much fun putting Sage in the baby carrier and shopping with him.  He's probably over 18 pounds now and I'm not a big person so he is starting to get heavy, but I swear I will wear him until I fall forward.  It's the best! What a blast.  I just want to hold onto this time that I can shop like this with my sweet baby boy.  Sage gets such a kick out of holding food too.  I told him that the glass jar of tomato sauce  that he wanted to hold wasn't the best idea, but butternut squash ravioli would be fantastic!

Confession #3 - Pumping takes me 1.5 hours each day total (with cleaning the parts).  I pump twice at home, upon waking and before bed, and twice at the office during the workday.  I kind of wonder what I'll do with that time (10+ hours each week) when I'm no longer pumping.  If I was sleeping or running during that time, I'd either be really well rested or in awesome shape.  Right now my plan is to go until Sage is about a year old, but we'll see.  Sage is eating more solids each week, but still takes about four bottles a day and I like the added nutrition that nursing supplies.  Sometimes I get frustrated after a long day and I have to clean my pump parts so I can pump, and then clean them after again so they are ready for me to pump in the morning before work, but the reality is I wouldn't change it for the world. I feel so blessed to have had such a good breastfeeding experience and it makes me so happy to provide for Sage.

Confession #4 - I still call myself a runner even though I haven't run in months. I swear it's going to happen soon. I even have thoughts of signing up for a fall marathon. Is that crazy?  Yeah probably, but nothing like a marathon to get you moving.  Come spring (it's coming soon, right?!) I'll be able to run with Sage in the jogger stroller on the weekends. Yay!  Also, I could run on the treadmill before work.  I'll keep you posted...

Confession #5 - Sometimes at night just before bed when my husband and I are talking I fall asleep mid-conversation. And it's not because it's not an interesting conversation, I'm just that bone tired.  I haven't slept longer than a four hour stretch in months.  (As I type this though, Sage did give me a six hour stretch last night which was AWESOME and I am so proud of him!)  However, for months it's been three and four hour chunks of sleep, up to nurse, and back to sleep (or the horrible middle of the night can't fall back asleep).  All I can say is a three hour stretch of sleep and then a four hour stretch doesn't add up to seven hours of sleep.  But I've said this many times that I'm incredibly impressed with how the body adjusts and as a mama you just make it happen!

Confession #6 - My house is always a mess.  Not a complete disaster, but there is always laundry to be done and the kitchen is hardly ever perfectly clean.  It truly looks like baby land with Sage's bouncing chair, high chair, play mat, car seat (on the kitchen table because we haven't figured out a better place for it), pack n' play filled with baby stuff... I wouldn't have it any other way, but my house is just about never clean.  I'm guessing that will be the case for the next 18 years.

Confession #7 - Greeting Sage when he wakes up in the morning is the happiest thing in the world.  He wakes up with a smile on his face and I feel like the luckiest person alive.

I hope to blog more frequently in the near future, but if I do happen to get some extra time, I might have to go for a run instead (so then I feel like I can actually call myself a runner!).

Hope all is well in your world.

What's new with you?

Can you relate to any of these confessions?

  1. Trader Joes is the best! Cheapest price in town for organic tempeh and tofu :). Sage is getting so big!

  2. I hated, hated, hated pumping at school (in the back of my car), but obviously it was so worth it! I hope you can find productive things to do with your time once it's all said and done :). Truth: my house is never clean and Nia is much older haha. It just seems pointless; I clean, and she comes through taking stuff out again. Maybe one day I'll be a better housekeeper haha. Also, we're getting TJs SO soon and I can't wait. I miss all their stuff! And lastly, I feel the same way about running. I haven't done it in so long either. Maybe we can get each other back on track!
